The new heart-breaking love story from award-winning romance writer Dani Atkins.
He’d have done everything differently if he’d known she’d be gone so soon…
When Lisa married Alex, she gave his life meaning. She was a professional astronomer: a stargazer. And when she gazed at Alex, she saw that behind his tough exterior was a man she could love.
Alex, Lisa and their young son Connor made a happy little universe. But when Lisa dies suddenly, their universe is destroyed. Alex is shattered by loss, and overwhelmed by the difficulties of being a single father to a six-year-old boy.
Then Alex meets four strangers. Two men and two women, who never met Lisa, but whose lives changed profoundly because she died. As Alex hears their stories, he begins to realise the world may not be as cruel and senseless as it seems. Perhaps, after all, the future is written in the stars…
Alex and Lisa are happily married, and she’s about to present at a conference that could have an impact on her career. But then tragedy strikes and she is taken away from this world suddenly. leaving behind a distraught husband and six-year old son. Alex struggles with his grief and the reality of bringing up a heartbroken six year old on his own.
But from the loss of Lisa, four strangers lives are changed forever. As Alex gets to know these strangers, as well as them getting to know each other, he realises that from tragedy, good things can arise….
This is such a raw, emotional and moving story. I haven’t read anything from Dani before and she does the most beautiful job of bringing the story, and each character and their emotions, to life. I cried my way through this, feeling everything that the characters did, especially Alex and Connor. It is so heartbreaking at times and you’ll feel every second of his grief, but there is light on the other side….
The story is told in alternating chapters between Alex and Molly. Molly is one of those whose life is changed by the death of Lisa, and although things are positive for her, and she’s given another chance at life, she also has her struggles. She is a wonderful, warm character and I instantly connected with her. I also loved watching her friendships develop between her and Alex, and her and Mac which kept me turning the pages.
Honestly, this is such a beautiful and moving novel that I feel honoured to have read. The characters really do come to life, and the story will take you on an emotional journey. So if you’re looking for something that will, no doubt, make you cry but where you will be invested in the characters and able to immerse yourself in a beautiful story, then this is for you.
And finally, can we just give some love to the cover – it’s so gorgeous and definitely one of my favourites of the year!
