Happy Saturday all!  Today I’m honoured to be closing blog tour for Five Steps to Happy by Ella Dove, a heart-warming feel good novel based on an inspiring true story…..

the blurb

Life can change in a heartbeat…

When struggling actress Heidi has a life-changing accident aged 32, her world falls apart. Stuck in hospital and unable to walk, her only companion is Maud, the elderly lady in the bed next to hers. Heidi misses her flatmate, her life, her freedom – surely 32 is too young to be an amputee?

But when Maud’s aloof but attractive grandson Jack pays a visit to the ward, Heidi realises that her life isn’t over just because it’s different. It might not look like the life she dreamed of, but it’s the one she’s got – and there’s a lot she still wants to tick off her bucket list. With Jack at her side, will Heidi take the first step back to happiness? Or is there one more surprise still in store…?

A feel-good read based on the inspiring true story of journalist Ella Dove. Sometimes all it takes is one small step…

my review

This is such a thought-provoking and feel good story.

Heidi is out running one day when she has a freak accident that changes her life forever.  When she wakes up in hospital and discovers she’s an amputee – she doesn’t know how she’s going to continue with her independent life.

But after leaving the hospital she goes to rehab where she makes friends and realises that she can do all the things she wants, she just has to be brave.  With the help of Jack, her room mate Maud’s Grandson, she writes a list and starts ticking things off….proud of herself for every one.  And with her sister’s wedding looming, and her as bridesmaid will she be able to walk down the aisle as planned? Will she be able to move back home after rehab? And what will happen with her a Jack?

Reading through the story, I didn’t realise that it was inspired by events that had happened to the author.  All the way through I was thinking of how inspirational Heidi was and how hard and devastating it must be for someone to go through the things she does.  Then to learn that some of this is what the Author went through blew me away!

Heidi is a great character and we go along with her on her journey of recovery and rediscovering her independence.  Maud is fantastic – such a brilliant and upbeat lady.  I had mixed feelings about Jack…I didn’t particularly warm to him at first, but then he starts helping Heidi and they seem to start developing feelings for each other and so I warmed to him….and then went off him again, and then liked him again….it was a bit of a rollercoaster!

Overall this is a fantastic story which will really make you think.  It made me think about things I probably wouldn’t have otherwise – like the struggles people with amputations or disabilities have when going on the tube, or at train stations.  I felt all the emotions she was going through and felt so proud of her when she was successful in her challenges.  This book will have you thinking about your own life and how grateful we should all be for the things we take for granted each day.

This really is a great read! Absolutely recommended by me!
