Happy Monday my lovelies. Today I’m on the blog tour for After Whorl: Bran Reborn, book 2 in the Celtic Fervour series, and I’m delighted to bring you a review and a giveaway!
AD 71 Northern Roman Britain
Ravaged at the Battle of Whorl, Brennus of Garrigill is irrevocably changed. He embraces a new identity as Bran, vowing to avert Roman domination of Brigantia. Though how, when he and Ineda – his healer’s granddaughter – are forced to labour for the Roman IX Legion? Trading with the usurpers provides opportunities for gathering information, but after they are attacked by a Roman patrol, Ineda cannot be found.
Distraught with her loss, can Bran find a new occupation?
The adventures of the Garrigill Clan continue…

In this instalment we’re with Brennus after a near-fatal wounding at the Battle of Whorl. But he didn’t die – and with a wonderful old healer taking care of him, he survives. But when he comes round he struggles to tell her his name, and is renamed Bran…..a name he decides to stick with ‘Bran the Broken’ as he can no longer be the fierce warrior he once was.
He meets the granddaughter of his healer, and ends up returning to the village the tribes are living in, under the rule of the Romans. Although they get to keep their houses, they have to manually labour for the Romans. Bran finds himself carrying out duties, but realises with the help of Ineda that he could be more useful. They set off a mission, working together, but will they be successful.
But then Ineda goes missing and Bran doesn’t know what to do with himself……will he find her? And will he find his higher purpose that was foreseen?
Yet again, another great novel from Nancy! I loved the first book, and loved that we were with Lorcan’s brother this time but still got to hear about Lorcan and Nara (who I fell in love with in Book 1). Bran has been through a rough time and is trying to fight his feelings….and I spent the whole book willing him and Ineda together! Ineda is a young, but extremely strong minded woman who has some brilliant ideas, and at times I was getting frustrated for her!
Again, this is well researched and I loved that it gives you an insight into Britannia when the Romans were here and the tribes were fighting for their land and livelihood. It’s an area of history that truly fascinates me. And I love that the Druids are in here!
As with the last book, I now can’t wait to read Book 3 to see what pans out!
If you enjoy historical fiction, with a bit of ‘will they, won’t they’ then this is for you!
You can read this as a standalone but I definitely recommend you read Book 1 first…..just because I love it! My review of The Beltane Choice is here.
