I am delighted to be taking part in the Blog Tour organised by Frasers Fun House today for Heavenward, written by Olga Gibbs.
With the power to end the world, would you protect humanity when it broke you or would you take revenge?
Meet Ariel: a quiet, unnoticeable girl with an incredible gift…
Ariel never had an easy or pleasant life, but the arrival of three gorgeous strangers meant her measured life is turned upside down, as she discovers that angels exist.
Now against her will, she’s drawn into an ancient celestial conflict, where her powers will decide the fate of humanity.
Deceived, threatened, hunted and now on the run, who can she trust?
Before I start, I have to say just how beautiful the cover is! I absolutely love it and would most definitely pick this us in a book shop…..that sparkly purple hair!!
The story is told by our protagonist, Ariel. She’s a teenager with an extremely troubled and horrific past who thinks she is a normal girl. But with three new arrivals in school, her world changes dramatically. She’s finds out angel’s are real……and that she has unbelievable powers. We’re taken on her journey of discovery through some pretty awful scenes but some amazingly beautiful ones too…..and there is the required bit of romance!
Some parts of the book are quite dark but this just adds to the story. The way Gibbs provides us with descriptions is fantastic and really gives us a good image of what we should be picturing in our minds – I kind of want to visit some of these places!
I found Ariel quite annoying at first but once you begin to learn what she’s been through it’s understandable. There are some really adorable characters (I love Tabby!) and some absolutely gorgeous characters from what I can imagine. I would love to see what Rafe and Sam look like!!
Gibbs covers the areas of mental health and abuse well which is always a tough thing to do, and it really does help the reader to find some empathy for Ariel.
There were a couple of sections where I guessed what might happen next but I wasn’t sure…. which kept me intrigued. As I read through it, I found it more and more exciting and just didn’t want to put it down!
The ending is great and leaves it open for the next instalment, which I can not wait to read! This book is definitely recommended by me…….Bring on Hallow!!
Olga Gibbs lives in a leafy-green town, nestled amongst the green fields of West Sussex, England. She was writing from the age of fifteen, mainly short stories and novellas and was a guest columnist for a local newspaper.
