Today I’m on the blog tour for The Cinderella Plan by Abi Silver – a brilliant legal thriller….
When James Salisbury, the owner of a British car manufacturer, ploughs his ‘self-drive’ car into a young family, the consequences are deadly. Will the car’s ‘black box’ reveal what really happened or will the industry, poised to launch these products to an eager public, close ranks to cover things up?
James himself faces a personal dilemma. If it is proved that he was driving the car he may go to prison. But if he is found innocent, and the autonomous car is to blame, the business he has spent most of his life building, and his dream of safer transport for all, may collapse.
Lawyers Judith Burton and Constance Lamb team up once again, this time to defend a man who may not want to go free, in a case that asks difficult questions about the speed at which technology is taking over our lives.

Where I’d usually provide a bit of a synopsis of the book here – I’m not going to! The blurb says exactly what I’d want to say so I’m not going to repeat it….
This is an engaging legal thriller that will have you wondering if there is more to the story that you know in the beginning and wondering what the outcome will be. The characters are believable, and I did read through this feeling a bit suspicious…..but whether my suspicions came true or not, I won’t tell you! You do feel sorry for James – it seems that either way he will take the blame…either for being the ‘driver’ of the car, or the developer so the result doesn’t seem to be good for him….but can his legal team save him?
I haven’t read the previous books in Burton and Lamb series and this didn’t impact the story – you can definitely read this as a standalone. I liked both Burton and Lamb – and the fact that the author Abi, is a lawyer by profession makes the story credible and truly believable.
The fact that the story is looking at self-drive cars did freak me out a bit because I’m sure this must be being researched (if not developed!) somewhere in the world….and it’s actually quite worrying!
Overall, this is a brilliant and engaging legal thriller and I’d most definitely read more from Abi. Recommended by me!
