Good morning lovelies! I hope you are all well and looking forward to a productive day! Today I’m delighted to be on the blog tour for Toxic Deception by K.C. Gillis, the first in the series of Jordan Reed Mysteries.
Strange symptoms. Bloody secrets. Can one reporter solve a medical mystery before she ends up in a body bag?
Jordan Reed put her world on hold to hunt down corruption. So when the gutsy journalist gets tipped off about blood money changing hands at a pharmaceutical factory, she dives into the story. With an otherwise healthy worker dropping dead of multiple organ failure, Jordan suspects something far more sinister than a simple accident…
Daring to go up against big pharma, she gains an ally on the inside and recruits two friends to join the investigation. But after a string of false leads and tight-lipped witnesses, she ties her case to disturbingly similar evidence in a medical trial on the other side of the globe. And if she doesn’t expose the lethal conspiracy soon, Jordan is terrified she and her team could be the next victims of the lethal cover-up.
Can Jordan take down a greedy corporation before they sacrifice more lives in the drive for profit?
Toxic Deception is the first book in the gripping Jordan Reed thriller series. If you like tenacious heroines, underdog stories, and edge-of-your-seat action, then you’ll love K.C. Gillis’s page-turning tale.

Jordan arrives home a finds an envelope stuck to her door from a mysterious person pointing her in the direction of something that could be significant. Once she’s finally connected a few dots, she able to do some digging and finds out that a big local Pharma company maybe covering up something significant. But things don’t go to plan and she has to back off……
But then, Charlie finds out something big – something that could blow the original story out of the water. But as she starts to investigate, things start getting out of hand and her story leads her and her friends to dangerous places. Will she be able to uncover what the company are hiding? Will her friends make it out alive? And is everyone what they seem?
This was a fantastic first book in the Jordan Reed series. The story unravels at just the right pace – enough so that it keeps you hanging on, but not too slowly that you’re willing it to hurry up!
Jordan is a feisty character. Dead set on doing what she wants and thinks is right, but some of her decisions are definitely questionable. At times she left me rather frustrated – if I’d been watching her on TV I would have been shouting at her!! I absolutely love the supporting characters, Travis and Charlie. It’s great that she brings in her trusted friends to help her try and solve the case, although I wish she’d listen to them sometimes – they have some excellent ideas! There are some other brilliant characters in this.- good and bad. Despite him not being on the right side, I love Carter!
At times the story got a little bit confusing for me, but that’s because it went into the pharmaceutical side a little and I felt a bit lost; but I definitely recognise the need for this to support the story. It didn’t detract from the story and it did become clear in the end.
I’m looking forward to seeing what other stories Jordan can get herself wrapped up in, and whether they turn out to be as dangerous as this! If you enjoy thrillers/mysteries then this will be right up your street so check it out.
about the author
K.C. (Kevin) Gillis is the author of the Jordan Reed mystery series. Despite being a lifelong lover of stories and books, writing took a distant back seat as his professional career travelled through the Canadian Air Force, a decade as a chemist, followed by a long and continuing run in corporate America. With writing no longer in the back seat (but not quite yet in the front seat), Kevin now has the Jordan Reed series well under way. His personal interests focus on endurance and water sports. Having grown up in the Canadian Maritimes, he now lives in the US northeast with his wife, teenagers and a pair of black cats.
