Happy Sunday everyone!  Today I’m bringing you a review of The Suspects by Katharine Johnson and brilliant twisty psychological thriller…..

the blurb

When you’re bound together by secrets and lies who do you trust?

Bristol, 1988.

Five young graduates on the threshold of their careers buy a house together in order to get a foot on the property ladder before prices spiral out of their reach. But it soon becomes the house share from hell.

After their New Year’s Eve party, they discover a body – and it’s clear they’ll be the first suspects. As each of them has a good reason from their past not to trust the police, they come up with a solution – one which forces them into a life of secrets and lies.

But can they trust each other?

my review

The story is told from the viewpoint of Emily, a new graduate who has just got on to a graduate scheme to become the journalist she’s always wanted to be.  There are 4 other graduates, all who become friends and decide the best way forward for them is to jointly buy a house together.  All starts well but then things start turning sour as they start getting on each others nerves……

Then one night following their New Year’s Even party, one of the housemates finds a body in the basement and things start to spiral out of control…….No-one claims to have known what happened to the person…..but are they telling the truth?  Are the housemates all what they seem, or do they have secrets of their own?

The story is great and completely keeps you on your toes! As soon as you think you’ve sussed it out something new comes up and you have to think about it all over again! Each person has their own secrets which really adds to the story and you genuinely have no idea what’s going to come at the end.  The writing is great and easy to follow, and honestly keeps you gripped!

The characters are relatable and you just want the best for them, despite what they’ve done and what they’re hiding but I can’t imagine living with that amount of guilt?!

I really enjoyed this and didn’t want to put it down….I just wanted to see if they’d get caught and what would happen to them…..and find out who actually did it!  If you want something that will keep you on your toes, this is definitely for you!
