Afternoon everyone.  I hope you’re all doing well and having a lovely weekend so far! Today I’m delighted to be on the blog tour for Death of a Texan by Cat Hickey, a brilliant mystery and book 2 in the Chloe Parsons series.

about death of a texan

A grieving widow. A sketchy admirer. An adoring boyfriend.

But one of them is up to no good.

Chloe’s new life in Costa Rica seems perfect: her relationship with Mateo is heating up, and her career as a private investigator is off to a good start. She only wishes that her cases were more interesting than the lost dogs or cheating husbands she’s been hired for so far…

She gets her wish when a dead body lands, almost literally, at her feet. Hired by the highly strung Elena Vargas to follow her husband, Victor, Chloe discovers that not only was he cheating on his wife – he’s been murdered.

As Chloe delves deeper into the mystery surrounding Victor’s death, she uncovers secret after secret. The danger becomes all too real when she narrows in on the killer’s identity. Someone is following her everywhere, and threatening notes arrive on her doorstep.

As if that’s not bad enough, her relationship with Mateo begins to unravel, and his coworker, Jaime, seems intent on convincing her that Mateo is a cheater.

Desperately trying to figure out what’s going on, Chloe becomes more and more enmeshed in a sordid world of lies, sex, and murder.

Who can Chloe really trust? And can she catch the killer before she becomes the next victim?

my thoughts

This was another fab mystery by Hickey that kept me reading.  It was great to be back with Chloe and to see her settling into her life in Costa Rica.  But although things start off well they soon start to go downhill.  Her simple case of investigating a cheating husband turns into a murder case, and her relationship with boyfriend Mateo isn’t going well.

It was sad to see this as I loved watching them get together in the first book so was gutted for them that things weren’t going well.  I loved Mateo but definitely feel like my thoughts on him changed this time….  I loved being reintroduced to one of the wonderful, outgoing characters from the first book which was unexpected but brilliant! Chloe is still slightly naive, and at times she does get on my nerves as she comes across quite sulky!  But I loved being back with straight talking Patty and wonderful Juan!

Although this is set in Costa Rica, you don’t get much of the scenery although the author does take you to some interesting places! The plot was enjoyable and easy to follow.  There is plenty of mystery, creepiness and humour in this to keep you reading; and the storyline will have you turning the pages.

Overall I really enjoyed this.  Although it is the second book in the Chloe Parsons series you can definitely read this as a standalone.  A great easy to read and enjoyable book with some great, interesting characters and an intriguing mystery.  So if you’re looking for something like this, then check this out.  Recommended by me.
