Afternoon everyone!  Today I’m delighted to be on the blog tour for Hinton Hollow Death Trip by Will Carver – a crazy, dark, gripping, thought provoking crime thriller that blew my mind!!

book blurb & info

It’s a small story. A small town with small lives that you would never have heard about if none of this had happened.
Hinton Hollow. Population 5,120.
Little Henry Wallace was eight years old and one hundred miles from home before anyone talked to him. His mother placed him on a train with a label around his neck, asking for him to be kept safe for a week, kept away from Hinton Hollow.
Because something was coming.
Narrated by Evil itself, Hinton Hollow Death Trip recounts five days in the history of this small rural town, when darkness paid a visit and infected its residents. A visit that made them act in unnatural ways. Prodding at their insecurities. Nudging at their secrets and desires. Coaxing out the malevolence suppressed within them. Showing their true selves.
Making them cheat.
Making them steal.
Making them kill.
Detective Sergeant Pace had returned to his childhood home. To escape the things he had done in the city. To go back to something simple. But he was not alone. Evil had a plan.

my thoughts

This was one hell of a crazy ride!!  I’ve not read any of Carver’s books before so had no clue what to expect – and wow!  I feel like I’ve been on a crazy, twisted, dark rollercoaster ride that had me questioning my own “goodness”!

Hinton Hollow Death Trip is narrated by Evil itself, where it causes chaos and mayhem to the residents for five days.  With arguments, cheating, deaths, murders and depravity taking place I definitely wouldn’t have wanted to be a resident there!!  With Evil nudging most of the residents, they find themselves acting in unexpected ways and doing things that they perhaps wouldn’t normally go through with.  Detective Sergeant Pace has returned to his home after living in London, to escape.  But doesn’t realise that Evil is apparently with him.  So rather than a quiet week, he’s in for a bumpy ride…..

Honestly, I don’t even know if I have the right words for this book! With many despicable acts taking place, in the real world we would question why these things happen – and Evil provides us with the answers in this.  There were so many things within that I agreed with, reasons why things happen; and Hinton Hollow Death Trip will most definitely get your thinking.  This isn’t an easy read; there is animal cruelty, child deaths, infidelity and sexual scenes which are all described and bought to life – so be prepared if you want to read this.  And the scary thing is these are all acts that do take place in real life.

The way that this is written, from the viewpoint of Evil, is so original and like nothing I’ve read before.  It gave the story such a dark and twisted feel, and reels you in even though you feel like you shouldn’t be.  I didn’t feel like I was reading a crime thriller; I don’t even know what words to use to describe it…….immense and crazy come close!

Carver does a brilliant job of getting the reader to think about their feelings for each of the characters, and this is one of the aspects that will have you thinking; I will say no more on that!

Overall, this is a fantastic read.  There are many twists and shocks in this; including the ending and you won’t want to put this down.  I will absolutely be looking to read more from Carver – what a fantastic, original author!  Highly recommended by me.
