Amidst ancient stories of prowling werewolves, the Lunar Society would meet under the light of a full moon to change the face of industry and enlightenment forever. When the discovery of a human skeleton at one of their old haunts coincides with the disappearance of a talented female prodigy, Private investigator Judd Stone is certain that the two are connected.

Travelling as far afield as Prague and as close as his native city of Birmingham, Judd includes past life regressions in an attempt to unlock the explosive age-old mystery and rescue the missing girl.

With a cloud descending over the treasured legacy of the Lunar Society, Judd quickly finds himself embroiled in a shockingly dark underworld of organised crime. So dark in fact he will need a lot more than the light of a full moon to escape with his life.

my thoughts

With something shocking happening right at the beginning of this, Judd already has something to investigate on his hands.  But when he’s approached by a a beautiful Spaniard to discover where her missing cousin in, but also to uncover the identity of a recently discovered skeleton, Judd finds his hands full.  As he delves into the investigations, he finds himself looking at both reality and supernatural, and finds himself having to rely on some past life regression to help solve the mysteries.  But as everything starts to come together, Judd is putting not only himself at risk but those that he cares about.  Will everyone make it through alive? Will he find the missing girl? And will he discover the secret behind the skeleton?

I absolutely loved this.  It was brilliant to be back with Judd, the loveable rogue who gets himself into a ridiculous amount of trouble! Despite the fact that I was angry with him for some of his behaviour you also can’t help but love him.  He is such a determined, resilient and strong character although he has many flaws which he accepts and tries to work on in this (well some of them at least!).  He comes across as a true hero at times but then an absolute idiot at others!!     Honestly, when will he learn?! There are lots of fantastic supporting characters in this too, and I was sad to lose some of them….you’ll have to read to find out who!

One of things I absolutely love about Martin’s novels is that they’re based around real life things – this time the Lunar society and it was fascinating learning about them and the real people that were a part of it.  It got me so intrigued I was googling to find out more!  I also really love the cross over between reality and the supernatural which keeps the reader on the toes.  The past life regression was captivating and I was thrilled at how everything came together.

And on top of all that there is plenty of mystery and action to keep you turning the pages! My only negative is that sometimes I feel like the narrative goes off on a bit of tangent when it might not always be necessary, but it’s a minor thing and as I love Judd and the story so much, it really is a minor niggle.

So if you’re looking for a fab mystery/detective story, full of action, history and a bit of the supernatural, with a fantastic, strong (and sometimes infuriating!) protagonist, then check this out.  Although this is number 3 in the series, you can absolutely read this as a standalone, but I’d read the others too if I were you!

about the author

Martin Tracey is an author who likes to push the boundaries of reality. Even when injecting elements of the supernatural, the terror that grips you is very real. Not necessarily a genre specific author, psychological thrills are a plenty.
He has a passion for The Beatles & Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. Both music and football/soccer often find their way into his stories.
Martin lives in Birmingham, UK and is married with 2 daughters.
