Afternoon my lovelies. I hope you’re all good on this Saturday – it’s a bit chillier here and we’ve had a bit of rain…..waiting for the sunshine to come back!! ANYWAY…..today I have another Meet the Author interview for you. I’m talking to the lovely Victoria J. Price about fairy tales, legends, unicorns, smashing expensive dishes and her first full length published novel, The Third Sun: Daughter of the Phoenix Book One……..
Young Adult Fantasy
Tell us a bit about yourself:
I love fairy tales, myths and legends and grew up creating stories both in words and pictures. When I’m not writing you’ll find me exploring the English countryside with my husband and our two dogs.
What inspired you to start writing and where do you get your ideas?
I’ve been writing and telling stories for as long as I can remember—even on long car journeys to visit family, when I was about six or seven years old you’d have found me in the back seat putting together a magazine or a newspaper to gift my relatives.
My ideas come from everywhere—a face in a tree, a landscape, a song, a dream, a painting.
How many books have you written and published?
I’ve published The Third Sun, book one in the Daughter of the Phoenix series and also the prequel novelette for the series, The Angel’s Calling. I’m almost finished book two, The Eternal Dusk.
As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
So many things! I wanted to be a marine biologist, an artist, a writer, a jewellery maker. Now I get to say I’m three out of four of those things!
Other than writing, what else do you enjoy doing?
I could write a page for this! I love making jewellery, painting—anything crafting/making related I love. I enjoy going for walks in the countryside, swimming, being outside whenever I can. You’ll often find me curled up with a book—no matter how many times I tell myself I will finish my TBR pile before I get another new book, the TBR pile just keeps on growing!!
What’s your favourite film of all time and why?
The Last Unicorn! It’s an animated version of the book by Peter S Beagle, and I absolutely love it. The art style, the story, the characters. I used to watch it a lot as a child and there is just something about it that even as an adult draws me to it now and again.
If you could give your younger writing self any advice what would it be?
Don’t give up! Believe in yourself! Just write the story that’s in your head!
Describe yourself using three words only…….
Caring, creative, tenacious 😊
If you could be, or meet, any mythical creature, what would you choose and why?
I’d love to meet a Pegasus. I have a winged horse called Arion in the Daughter of the Phoenix series and it would just be amazing to befriend a flying horse and go for a ride together everywhere!
What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you (that you’re willing to share?!)
Oh, so many embarrassing moments. I once accidentally smashed a glass dish at a customer’s house when I first started freelancing. Her house was huge, in a very expensive area, and I’m very certain the dish cost more than my car! I was mortified.
What is your favourite genre to read and why?
I love to read fantasy. Anything that sweeps me away and transports me into another world, with rich world building and strong characters. I do read other genres from time to time, but I’m always pulled back to fantasy for just how spectacular it is.
Are you a cat or a dog person?
Both! Right now we have two dogs, my writing buddies. Jessie and Blue are border collies and keep me busy with their antics. I send out a #pupdate in my monthly newsletter as well as posting pictures of them on my social media, because they are always up to something!
And finally, tell us about your most recent book and where we can find it?
The Third Sun: Daughter of the Phoenix Book One is my first full-length published novel. It’s a story that’s been in my head for almost a decade, and I’m so in love with the characters and the world of Ohinyan, a world parallel to Earth.
The sun is dying, the windows to Earth are closing. Time is running out.
After the death of her sister, eighteen-year-old Fia Aldridge knows one thing for certain: she doesn’t belong anywhere. But then she tumbles into the parallel world of Ohinyan—a world where angels and witches walk amongst mankind.
An ancient darkness is taking advantage of the dying sun, and Ohinyan needs Fia’s help. She soon learns that her arrival is not entirely by accident and that Alexander, leader of angels, is not the guardian she thought he was.
Torn between their feelings and their duties, together they must find a way to return Fia to London before the darkness consumes her and she is trapped in Ohinyan forever.
A richly woven tale drawing on ancient myths and legends. Fans of elemental magic, witches, shapeshifters and portal fantasy will devour The Third Sun: Daughter of the Phoenix Book One.
