Although I’ve had a custom box before, this is my first subscription box from My Chronicle Book Box and I love it!  There are two boxes you can choose to subscribe to, the crime and mystery box or the sci-fi and fantasy box.  I struggled to choose which one to go for and ended up signing up to the crime and mystery box but with the sci-fi and fantasy bookish goodies! Thanks so much to Louise for letting me do this!

Spoiler warning…….If you’ve got this box and don’t want to see what books are included, don’t read on!!!

November’s crime and mystery box (with a twist!)

Firstly, can we just appreciate the packaging…. the box is branded which I love and once you’ve opened the flap you find this cute little personalised sticker!

Not only that, on top of the contents is a personalised envelope, addressed to ‘Your Favourite Reading Spot’ with a beautiful wax seal on the back:

And then…….. the contents are also packaged beautifully and each individual book is wrapped!

I absolutely love the amount of care and effort that goes into each box; it really gives it that luxury feel!

the books…..

The three books included are:

Cold Breath by Quentin Bates (plus signed bookplate)

‘How do you protect a man with a price on his head?  And if he’s not innocent, is he even worth protecting?

Gunnhilder has been taken off police duties to act as a bodyguard to a high-profile stranger.  Hidden away in a secure house outside Reykjavik, the pair are thrown together – too close for comfort.  But they soon find they are neither as safe nor as carefully hidden as Gunna had thought.  As conflicting glimpses of the stranger’s past start to emerge, the press sniff him out – and they’re not the only ones interested in finding him……

As they move from warehouse to warehouse, Gunna struggles to come to terms with protecting the life of a man who may have the lives of many on his conscience.  And as the friction grows between her and the visitor, Gunna realises they are increasingly out of their depth as the trail leads from the house outside Reykjavik to Brussels, Russia and the Middle East.’

The Corset by Laura Purcell (plus signed bookplate)

(How gorgeous is the cover?)

‘Dorothea and Ruth.

Prison visitor and prisoner.  Powerful and powerless.

Dorothea Truelove is young, wealthy and beautiful.  Ruth Butterham is young, poor and awaiting trial for murder.

When Dorothea’s charitable work leads her to Oakgate Prison, she is delighted to have the chance to explore her fascination with phrenology and test her hypothesis that the shape of a person’s skill can cast a light on their darkest crimes.  But when she meets teenage seamstress Ruth, she is faced with another theory; that it is possible to kill with a needle and thread.  For Ruth attributes her crimes to a supernatural power inherent in her stitches.

The story Ruth has to tell of her deadly creations – of bitterness and betrayal, of death and dresses – will shake Dorothea’s belief in rationality, and the power of redemption.

Can Ruth be trusted?

Is she mad, or a murderer?’

Believe Me by JP Delaney

‘I’m just an actress.  I wanted to stand on stage and have people applaud me.  How on earth did I get into this?

Claire Wright likes to play other people.

A British drama student, in New York without a green card, Claire takes the only job she can get:  working for a firm of divorce lawyers, posing as an easy pick-up in hotel bars to entrap straying husbands.

Never hit on them directly, she’s told.  We’re after evidence, not entrapment.  The innocent have nothing to fear.

That’s the theory, anyway.  But Claire is so good at this, she rarely fails to get her man.

When one of her targets becomes the subject of a murder investigation, the police ask Claire to use her acting skills to help lure their suspect into a confession.  But right from the start, she has doubts about the part she’s being asked to play.  Is Patrick Fogler really a killer….Or the only decent husband she’s ever met?  And is there more to this set-up than she’s being told?

And that’s when Claire realises she’s playing the deadliest role of her life….’

How amazing do all of these sound? I can’t wait to get round to reading them!!

the goodies….

About my chronicle book box

As I’ve said there are the two subscription boxes which are quarterly (but you can pay monthly if you want to!) but there are also exclusive boxes and boxes that you can buy now in the shop!

I’ve just ordered the All Souls Trilogy Box (which I don’t think is available anymore) celebrating all things All Soul’s and the release of Times Convert by Deborah Harkness……I’m so excited for it to arrive!

I found My Chronicle Book Box whilst I was in hospital recently and sent Louise a message to see if she had any old boxes left to keep me amused!  She didn’t BUT she did curate a bespoke box for me (THANK YOU!) so if you’re looking for something special, definitely get in touch with Louise!

The subscription boxes are £45 and most definitely worth it.  If you’re looking to treat yourself to something amazing and bookish, definitely go and check out the website here.

Let me know if you sign up and what your think!
