my thoughts

It’s a year after the horrific tragedy at Rayner High School and Jon is determined to get his 5 friends there at night to see if they can contact any of the deceased.  Armed with a ouija board, and despite some of the groups reluctance, the friends arrive and start their investigation.  And it’s just the beginning of their nightmares…….Who will they contact? What is trying to get out? And who, if any, will make it out alive?

As a huge fan of Point Horror and Christopher Pike when I was a kid I couldn’t wait to read this and I wasn’t disappointed!  This literally took me back to those days and had me on the edge of my seat, heart racing and manically flipping through the pages!

Any YA’s reading these will be able to relate to at least one of the characters who have the usual complicated teenage problems!  The group having been friends since primary school have some strong bonds, but some equally strong issues with each other!

The story starts with the tragic event and then jumps to a year later where we’re with the group of friends.  As the story moves on it pops back to the event so we understand what happened which is brilliant and helps the story unravel perfectly.  The plot and setting are both brilliant, and there are some super creepy moments that will make your skin crawl.  It’s a classically scary and creepy horror story that will ignite many a young adults love of horror, just the way Point Horror did for me.

You would have no idea that this was the author’s debut.  Everything flows beautifully, the writing is engaging and storyline solid.  So…if you’re looking for a new series of fab YA horror, or loved Point Horror, Goosebumps or Christopher Pike back in the day, then you NEED to check this out.  Highly recommended by me – I can’t wait to read more from this author.

about the author

Zoé O’Farrell grew up in Watford but left the town life to live by the sea down at the White Cliffs of Dover.
She spends her days working with numbers before escaping in the evening to the world of words and movies. Her go-to relaxation is watching a scary movie or reading a terrifying book!

She is a book blogger and tour organiser just to keep her extra busy. When she is not reading or writing, you can usually find her watching Watford FC or at a gig. Failing that she can be found rolling her eyes at her husband as he acts the same age as her spitfire of a Mini-Me whilst separating her two cats.

Ouija is her debut novel.
