Afternoon my lovelies.  Today I’m delighted to be a closing stop on the blog tour for Savage Gods by Peter Boland.  Absolutely full of action, this needs to be read by you thriller/action/crime lovers out there!!  Do not miss out!!

the blurb

He only kills atheists.

Pray that God’s on your side.

A serial killer stalks the streets of London, murdering atheists in the most horrific ways. So far, it’s only the loud, outspoken ones who’ve been targeted. Specifically, a controversial group of intellectuals called The Four Pillars of Atheism. Attacking religion and angering believers, they’ve amassed enough hate mail and death threats to keep the police busy until hell freezes over.

DCI Roberts and her team have too many suspects and are drowning in leads. The pressure is on her to catch the killer before another horrific murder is committed. Not helped by the fact that London is in the grip of a sweltering heat wave. Desperate times call for desperate measures. DCI Roberts reaches out to John Savage and Tannaz to help her find the killer. Trouble is, Savage has his own personal demon to battle. Can he defeat one and catch the other?

my review

Having not read any of Peter’s books before, I had no idea what to expect…..and I was 100% blown away!  I don’t even know if I have the words to do this book justice – I loved it so much!

Beginning with an intense action scene that had me wide eyed and heart racing, I got to meet John Savage…….ex SAS, he is an extraordinary complex character.  He, and his best friend Tannaz, are called in by DCI Roberts to assist with a couple of murders which are overwhelming her and the team.  With a serial killer of Atheists on the loose, will Savage and Tannaz be able to help?  The problem is that Savage is also dealing with his own issues (as I said – complex character!).  He suffers with PTSD from his time in the forces, and it’s getting worse and worse.  A battle he is constantly fighting that is wearing him down…..

With action happening at nearly every page turn, I couldn’t put this down.  I fell in love with Savage, not just because of his inner demons but because he is a strong and amazing character who will do anything for his friends and to bring the right people to justice.  He has an amazing sense of who might be up to something they shouldn’t – even when others aren’t on the same page as him.  He is also fierce! I loved it when he got into an action packed fight and found that I was there with him cheering from the sidelines.

The storyline is absolutely amazing – you will be sucked in from chapter one and won’t be able to, or want to, stop reading.  As well as the main story, there are things happening alongside it, equally as thrilling and engrossing.  Every time my heart settled, something spectacular kicked off, and my poor racing heart started up again and I was on the edge of my seat.

Although Savage won my heart, some of the supporting characters deserve a mention too! Tannaz is brilliant – a strong, intelligent woman who can absolutely handle herself – I certainly wouldn’t mess with her!  And Dink……what an amazing and loveable character! I just wanted him to sweep me up in a massive bear hug!  As there always should be in a good book, there are characters in here that you will not feel so warmly about and who will make your blood boil…….

The other thing I have to thoroughly thank the author for is my discovery of Cecil Court in London.  He bought it to life for me in his writing, so much so that I had to google it and now I have to visit.  It looks like the most amazing place to go for a book lover!!  If you’ve never heard of it… it…..NOW!! It’s like something out of Harry Potter but in real life!!

As I’ve mentioned, this book is just fantastic, and I was absolutely gutted to get to the end of it. It’s brilliantly written, sucks you in, brings the action to life and is easy and enjoyable to read.  I’m just glad that now (when I have time!) I have the previous three books to read!  Honestly, if you love action/crime/thriller, then you need to read this.  I promise you will love it.

A thoroughly well deserved ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

about the author

After studying to be an architect, Pete realised he wasn’t very good at it. He liked designing buildings he just couldn’t make them stand up, which is a bit of a handicap in an industry that likes to keep things upright. So he switched to advertising, writing ads for everything from cruise lines to zombie video games.

After becoming disillusioned with working in ad agencies, he switched to writing novels (or was it because he just wanted to work at home in his pyjamas?). He soon realised there’s no magic formula. You just have to put one word in front of the other (and keep doing that for about a year). It also helps if you can resist the lure of surfing, playing Nintendo Switch with his son, watching America’s Next Top Model with his daughter and drinking beer in a garden chair.
