Also today I’m so happy to bring you a review on publication day of The Cat That Changed America by Tony Lee Moral. A wonderful story aimed at young readers, about P22 a mountain lion who lives in Griffith Park in the middle of LA (true story!). Not only is it Publication Day, but I’m also reliably informed it’s P22 day in California!
book blurb & info
Based on a true story with an imaginative retelling for young readers;
P22 mountain lion is born in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains outside Los Angeles, California.
But he is forced out of the mountains by Prime, a fierce older male lion who wants him dead.
He heads east to stake out a new territory of his own in the bright lights of the big city.
Along the way, he makes friends as well as enemies, and crosses two freeways, the 405 and 101.
He passes through the City of Stars at night, and strolls down the Hollywood Walk of Fame, all the while trying to avoid those bothersome humans.
After more adventures, he reaches the edges of Griffith Park. Can he make it his new home?

This is such a wonderful book that children and animal lovers alike will adore. It tells the story of the mountain lion P22 as he learns to hunt, meets and makes new friends, learns about humans, encounters Prime (the head of the territory) and sets off on his adventures to find a new territory.
It will warm your heart, make you sad at times, and have you rooting for P22 all the way. The fact that this is about P22, a real lion is fantastic and made the story come to life even more. I couldn’t help but google all about him when I finished the book and can’t wait to watch the documentary about him. Children will love this entertaining and imaginative retelling of his life.
The other characters in this are brilliant, and there are some important messages in here about conservation and the terrible things humans do to the world, and animals. P22 has an international following, and there is even hope of building a wildlife crossing because of him!
Honestly, if you love animals you will absolutely love this and so will your children. If you’re looking for something heartwarming, based on a real life gorgeous animal that you can connect with, whilst teaching our youngsters about conservation, then check this out!. Highly recommended by me. I can’t wait to continue to follow P22’s journey.
