Today I’m absolutely delighted to be on the blog tour for The Dinner in the Sky by Anne John-Ligali….
After a shocking confrontation with an unexpected encounter, Constance tries to piece her life back together and is on a mission to finally move on.
The thought of having her friends near is comforting as they take time out of their busy online lives and meet up at their favourite place, A Cupful of Dreams Café. Everyone seems happy enough until cracks begin to show and all is not as good as it seems. Constance tries desperately to keep positive as there’s so much to look forward to: shopping for posh frocks, dinner at The Shard and a movie premiere.
As things start to look rosy, a few odd tweets begin to pop up from nowhere. At first, they seem innocent, but as the weeks go by and premier night draws near, not only do the tweets increase but they become more obnoxious.
By the time Constance and her chums arrive on the red carpet, she’s determined to work out who the troll could be and to keep them from spoiling her evening. However as Constance soon learns, the troll wants to destroy far more than that!
Breathtaking views of London.
Posh frocks and Paparazzi
But there’s definitely trouble in the air …
I was lucky enough to be gifted the first two books in the series; short stories that introduce us to the characters and to unravel some of the beginnings of the story. They were fantastic, but this one is definitely my favourite and had me absolutely gripped!
We’re back with Constance and her friends and this time she is trying to get over the incident that happens at the end of book 2, The Weekend Spa Break. She’s still trying to get over her heart-break but is looking forward to what looks to be a new romance, spending time with her friends, play dates with her son and the movie premier that she’s invited to!
On top of everything else though, she starts getting trolled online….someone is trying to break her and ruin her career. She doesn’t know who it is but has her suspicions….Other than the troll, things are starting to look up for her, but will it stay that way? There are a few people in her life who seem to be hiding secrets….will she find out what they are? And what impact will they have? And will she get the happy ending she longs for?
The characters in this book have grown since we’re first introduced to them in The Big Event, which briefly introduces us to them. We learn more in The Weekend Spa Break, and everything comes out in The Dinner in the Sky! Each person, as in real life, has their own demons that they’re battling with but what I loved so much, is how much they all come to truly love and care for each other, developing unbreakable bonds. Some of the characters are hilarious (Adelios and Jagger!) and other you want to not like but can’t help it (Maxwell). They all come to life, and I could really see them and the things they were getting up to! As well as the previous characters, we meet some new ones who are interesting….!
I was completely gripped, wanting to see whether Constance (and the rest!) finally got a happy ending or whether there were other things that would get in the way! Who is the bloody troll and what will happen at the end?
I also appreciate Anne touching on the subject on Autism, which is still not well understood in society and she highlights this well in the book.
Overall a fantastic story, and I would LOVE for there to be a fourth! You don’t have to read the first two but they’re only short stories and I would definitely recommend it, as it helps you to fall in love with the characters. The Big Event is currently free on Amazon (so check it out!).
