my thoughts

Dan’s acting career is in a slump and he’s behind on his mortgage payments, so when his dubious one night stand offers him a chance to make some money, he can’t refuse.  But the money making scheme involves him getting mixed up in a crime…..

Desperate, he goes ahead with the plan but things don’t work out as they should, and he finds himself falling deeper and deeper into trouble.  As the jigsaw puzzle of a mystery comes together, Dan finds himself in danger……

This was a gripping story with a fabulous plot.  Told in three strands; Back Story – where we learn about a young boy who goes through some horrible stuff, witnesses something he shouldn’t have seen and ends up falling down a hole for days on end; Action – follows the main story of Dan and subtext, where we learn about the person who is out to deliver their own punishments.  The three strands work brilliantly with each other and I loved seeing how all the pieces of the puzzle eventually came together.

Dan is a strange character, and bought out a lot of different feelings for me.  At times I thought he was a bit of an idiot, especially getting himself mixed up in the things he does and the way he gets his friends involved.  Although I didn’t want anything bad to happen to him, I didn’t build an amazing rapport with him.  Some of the supporting characters in this are brilliant though.  His friends are amazing and go to all sorts of lengths (some shocking!) to help him out of his sticky situation.

I was completely gripped by the storyline and found myself turning the pages no matter how tired I was!  I wanted to see where everything came together and what other ridiculous things Dan got himself involved in!  There is some excellent dry humour in this; making me chuckle at the most unexpected times!  And as the author is an actor, this gives some fabulous insights in to what it must be like behind the scenes!

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping and humorous crime thriller and look forward to more from this author.  Recommended by me.
