And secondly today from snowy Kent,  I’m delighted to bring you a review of The Weight on Skin by Beena Khan, the duet novel to The Name of Red, this is a thought provoking and wonderful romance…..

about the weight on skin

The wealthy, good boy has gone rogue because of a woman.

An Amazon Top 30 Asian Fiction & Top 50 in Medical Romance.
Kabir’s story continues in this dark, twisty, and steamy sequel.

There’s only so many times a heart can break. One day, it will be okay, but it’ll heal all wrong. It’ll heal with you outside of it.

Eight months have gone, and Kabir still hasn’t moved on from the woman he still loves. Her name is like a song on replay in his mind. He brings home women who are like her every night, but the next morning, he wakes up empty. He has the list of “Things To do” that she left for him, and he placed it on his refrigerator. He doesn’t know how to complete them though.
Because some secrets are too big to bury.

Ghosts from his past come forward forcing him to confront himself and his lifestyle. His best friend Nadia left him and cut off all contact. She left him because he fell in love with someone else. But now she returns in his life. He has to face these ghosts without losing himself completely.

This is the duet Novel, the second book to The Name of Red. in the Red series. Don’t forget to scroll up and purchase the book! The sequel can be read without reading the first book, but it’s recommended to read the first book. A story of healing, love, and pure chemistry that will make you add Kabir to your list of book boyfriends. This novel has sensitive subjects that can trigger someone. It has edgy, dark themes.

my thoughts

This novel follows on from The Name of Redand Kabir is still struggling with his heartbreak.  The gentle Kabir has gone, and in his place is a playboy who brings a different woman home every night….until his ghosts start to catch up with him……  He becomes determined to return to the career that he loves, medicine, but he needs to put some other ghosts to bed first. And when chance brings him and his estranged best friend Nadia, back together he starts feeling things he hasn’t felt for her before…….

It was fantastic to be back with Kabir.  I fell in love with this gentle man in The Name of Red and felt everything he felt.  This time he’s so different, but there’s more to it than meets the eye.  I absolutely loved getting to know him more, learning about his past and why he’s the way he is. Meeting his ex for this first time was brilliant, and he definitely dealt with it in a completely unexpected way!  And then there’s Nadia.  They became estranged in the last book, and their friendship was one of a kind.  But Nadia was hurting and had to take herself away.  Seeing them come back together, getting to know more about her and the way she’s been feeling over the years, a then the suspense of what would happen between then was fantastic!  I also loved being back with some of the other favourites from the last book, especially Aryan.

Khan has portrayed the way Kabir deals with his grief in a unique and interesting way (I don’t want to say too much as I don’t want to give anything away!) and there was a lovely, and unexpected surprise at the end!

Her writing style is enjoyable to read and I always feel like I”m friends with the characters.  This is another brilliant story with a satisfying ending (and unexpected in places!).  You can definitely read this as a standalone but I’d recommend reading The Name of Red first – one, because it’s a beautiful story, and two, because it will help you really get to know the real Kabir.  So if you’re looking for a romance to get lost in that will bring out a whole range of emotions in you, then check this out!  Recommended by me.
