my first new bookish post
I’m so excited that my first new ‘bookish’ blog post is my unboxing and first impressions of My Chronicle Book Box.
I spent a lot of time whilst in hospital looking through all the UK book subscription services and My Chronicle Book Box really caught my eye. Looking at old boxes and Instagram posts cemented the fact that this box looks like it was made for me and I had to have it!
what is my chronicle book box?
It’s a fantastic luxury quarterly subscription box in which you receive 3 newly released books and some extra, carefully selected (and mainly exclusive) bookish goodies. It’s £45 for the box, which sounds a lot but can be paid either in one go or at £15 a month which is really reasonable. There is the choice of either the Crime and Mystery Book Box or the Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Box. They also have some boxes which can be purchased straight away! It is honestly worth checking out their website here.
As I’d missed August’s box, I contacted the company to see if there were any boxes left (as I’ve been desperate for some new books!). Louise responded so quickly and although no August boxes were left, she was more than happy to work with me to build a bespoke box – fantastic! Louise provided me with a list of books available, I chose 2 and left the third decision down to her so, as well as my bookish goodies, I’d have another surprise! I really appreciate the fact that she has been so helpful!
So what did I get?
All of this – wow!!
I knew from all my research that I was going to love this box but I was still blown away! The attention to detail and the way it is presented is superb.
Firstly on opening the box, I was greeted by an envelope with my name and address on, a print and some information. Can we firstly appreciate this gorgeous stamp on the back of the envelope….these small details really make all the difference!
Once I’d riffled through the shredded paper I found my bookish goodies!
I love each of these, and especially love the pencils which have quotes on such as ‘It was a dark and stormy night…..’ and ‘Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin….’ CUTE!
Underneath the goodies, the books are beautifully wrapped making it feel just like Christmas!
It was exciting opening each one to see what was in there (even though I’d chosen two myself!). I was excited to receive these three books:
I’ll tell you about these books in a moment, but I don’t want to forget the contents of the envelope! Inside were interviews with the authors and two signed name plates which is also a fab touch!
I just love the way they are laid out, so professional. So on to the books (which I can’t wait to read!)…….. The first two were the one’s chosen my me and the third was the surprise; all are from the Crime and Mystery Book Box. I’ll put up a review of each one once I’ve read them too but I think you’ll agree that they sound thrilling!

the devil’s claw – by lara dearman
Following a traumatic incident in London, Jennifer has returned to her childhood home of Guernsey, taking a job as a reporter at the local newspaper.
After the discovery of a drowned woman on a beach, she uncovers a pattern of similar deaths that have taken place over the past fifty years.
Together with DCI Michael Gilbert, an officer on the verge of retirement, they follow a dark trail of island myths and folklore to ‘Fritz’, the illegitimate son of a Nazi soldier. His work, painstakingly executed, has so far gone undetected.
But with his identity about to be uncovered, the killer now has Jennifer in his sights.
a different kind of evil – by andrew wilson
In January 1927 – and still recovering from the harrowing circumstances surrounding her disappearance a month earlier – Agatha Christie sets sail on an ocean liner bound for the Canary Islands.
She has been sent there by the British Secret Intelligence Service to investigate the death of one of it’s agents, whose partly mummified body has been found in a cave.
Early one morning, on the passage to Tenerife, Agatha witnesses a woman fall from the ship into the sea. At first, nobody connects the murder of the young man in Tenerife with the death of a mentally unstable heiress. Yet, soon after she checks into the glamorous Taoro Hotel situated in the lust Orotava Valley, Agatha uncovers a series of dark secrets.
The famous writer has to use her novelist’s talent for plotting to outwit an enemy who possess a very different kind of evil.
I truly love this box! Although at first £45 sounds expensive, this is excellent value for money! The tiny details that Louise puts into the box, the extras that are included and the quality of the books chosen are fantastic.
I for one have subscribed and can’t wait for my next box to arrive in November! I was finding it tough to decide which box to subscribe to – Crime & Mystery or Sci-Fi & Fantasy so expressed my worries to Louise. The best thing is that you can change which box you want each time as long as you let them know before the shipping deadline! So if you fancy Crime one quarter, and then Fantasy the next you can!
Have you received a My Chronicle Book Box before, or any other book subscription box? If so, let me know what your thoughts were 🙂
Until next time……
