Although thirty-three-year-old Kara Moon loves her hometown of Hartmouth in Cornwall, she has always wondered if she should have followed her dream of going off to study floristry. But she couldn’t bring herself to abandon her emotionally delicate single father, and has worked on Ferry Lane Market’s flower stall ever since leaving school.
When her good-for-nothing boyfriend cheats on her and steals her life savings, she finally dumps him and rents out her spare room as an Airbnb. Gossip flies around the town as Kara welcomes a series of foreign guests to her flat overlooking the estuary.
Then an anonymous postcard arrives, along with a plane ticket to New York. And there begins the first of three trips of a lifetime, during which she will learn important lessons about herself, her life and what she wants from it – and perhaps find love along the way.
Kara is ok with her life. She lives near her Dad and Grandad Harry, works on the flower stall in Ferry Lane Market and lives with her good for nothing boyfriend, Jago. But when she finds out that he’s cheating on her, everything begin to change and she wonders if she’s made the right decisions throughout her life.
To make some extra money, she rents out her spare room on Airbnb and has the town gossiping as a string of luscious men stay…. And just as things are taking a downturn for Kara, a mysterious postcard arrives along with a plane ticket for New York. Realising she has to put herself first and have a break, she sets off on her three week mystery adventure. Along the way she discovers herself and what freedom feels like, as well as realising what it is that she really wants in life……
I absolutely adored this. I laughed, I cried and I grinned from ear to ear! The characters are brilliant, the setting is fantastic and the storyline is heartwarming, funny and will leave you wanting more.
I absolutely loved Kara. She’s such a lovely person, having given up her dreams for others and it was fantastic watching her grow, learn about herself and gain some self confidence. Her friends and family are also wonderful and I particularly loved her Grandad Harry and Billy. Even the characters that come to visit her Airbnb are brilliant!! There are a couple of less desirable characters, but these will make you love the others even more.
Hartmouth is a wonderful place and if that isn’t enough of a beautiful place to visit, the author takes us on an exciting adventure to various places around the world with Kara. I was there with her and enjoyed every. single. minute!
The storyline is absolutely heartwarming, funny at times and will make you smile. But don’t be fooled – you’ll experience heartbreak too and I cried more than once! The way the story unfolds is wonderful and going on the journey with Kara feels really special. She’s such a lovely and charming character that you’ll just want the best for her, and will thoroughly every second of this.
So if you’re looking for your next lovely, funny, heartwarming adventure with characters you will adore, settings that will make you want to go there and the start of series that will leave you wanting more, then this is definitely for you. Highly recommended for me – I cannot wait for book 2!
