Today I’m thrilled to be on the blog tour for Where the Dead Fall by M. J. Lee…..the second book in the DI Ridpath series.

the blurb

One chance encounter, one street side murder, will change everything. The extraordinary new Ridpath crime thriller

DI Ridpath is in the process of getting his life back together when everything goes wrong.

Driving to meet his daughter, he is caught in a gruesome motorway accident, in which a near-naked man is rundown by a lorry, while fleeing from a lone gunman. As Ridpath closes Manchester’s road network in search of the assailant, one question remains: why did nobody else see him?

Ridpath’s investigations soon unearth a number of inconsistencies, which pulls the police force itself into question, and hint at something sinister to come.

For Manchester is on the brink of a fresh surge of violence unlike anything it has seen in decades, and Ridpath must battle this unprecedented conflict along with his own demons. One thing is for sure. There will be blood on the streets…

The nail-biting sequel to Where the Truth Lies, M J Lee’s Where the Dead Fall is an absolute must read, perfect for fans of Mark Billingham, Faith Martin and Peter James

my review

This is a gripping crime thriller that really did have me guessing until the very end!

DI Ridpath is on his way to meet his daughter when someone runs out in front of him, and is subsequently hit by a lorry, but at the same time he also sees someone at the side of the road….was the person being chased? Only problem is….none of the other witnesses apparently saw anything other than the victim!

None of his peers or senior officers seem to believe him, but he knows he didn’t imagine it.  He’s convinced and spends so much time trying to prove that the person was there.  Because more murders happen…… and everyone still believes that they are  something to do with the big gangs.  But Ridpath believes there’s more to it….

Are the murders linked? And if so by who and why? Trouble is brewing with the gangs because of it….will there be a huge gang war? Will anyone ever believe Ridpath, and is he right?

You’ll have to read to find out!  Be prepared for some brilliant twists and a fantastically shocking ending!

The only minor niggle I had was that there are quite a lot of characters to get your head around at times.  I found it slightly confusing to start with, but got used to them all as my reading progressed.

This is book 2 in the DI Ridpath series and I haven’t read book 1 so was apprehensive about whether I’d feel like there were bits missing for me. This wasn’t the case at all.  Lee covers just enough background so you don’t need to have read book 1.  Now I’ve finished this though, I’m definitely adding it to my future TBR list!

about the author

Martin has spent most of his adult life writing in one form or another. As a University researcher in history, he wrote pages of notes on reams of obscure topics. As a social worker with Vietnamese refugees, he wrote memoranda. And, as the creative director of an advertising agency, he has written print and press ads, tv commercials, short films and innumerable backs of cornflake packets and hotel websites.

He has spent 25 years of his life working outside the North of England. In London, Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore, Bangkok and Shanghai, winning awards from Cannes, One Show, D&AD, New York and London Festivals, and the United Nations.

When he’s not writing, he splits his time between the UK and Asia, taking pleasure in playing with his daughter, researching his family history, single-handedly solving the problem of the French wine lake and wishing he were George Clooney.
